TRANSFORMATION OF THE REVOLUČNÍ BLVD., PRAGUE

Conceptual study of the Revoluční Street was designed in a manner of reaching an optimum agreement between the key institutions of the process, namely the Prague Public Transport Company, Prague 1 municipality, Prague City Hall representatives, Czech Blind United, National Heritage Institute, Police Department, and Technical Road Administration. A narrow street profile, where almost all possible means of transport meet, demands an achievement of complicated consensus based on an individual compromise of each and every institution involved. Exceptions in the regulations had to be made in order for this solution to become possible. The general concept respects proportional distribution of space requirements of each transport in priority order, from pedestrians on top, through public transport, bicycles, and finally cars at the bottom. A completely individual chapter is a solution of individual parking, which is a part of a larger issue. We propose a possibility of adding a large underground car park in the foreground of Štefánik’s Bridge, provided an elaborate policy, which would ensure a sustainable use of the carpark mainly by local inhabitants, had been created beforehand. Solution of the foreground of the Štefánik’s Bridge had been a subject matter of yet another study, oriented specifically on this part and its relationship to Prague’s river banks.
